Our Mission
The purpose of our project is to detect the fires of an area, inform nearby servers and devices in that area of those fires, and ensure the safety of the residents in the community.

Background

Wildfire Statistics
Wildfires in the United States over time have grown to become a major issue, especially within California. In the past 2 years, 4.5 million U.S. homes have been identified at high or extreme risk of wildfire, with more than 2 million of them being in California. So far over the course of 2019, over 5,136 wildfires have been recorded within California alone, according to the Cal Fire and the US Forest Service. 4.3 million acres were burned in this 2019 period, compared with the additional 7.2 million acres burned in 2018. As global climate change fuels larger and more severe wildfires, the potential health risks magnify. The smoke from wildfires brings in large amounts of people to hospitals, who are suffering from breathing problems as well as worse asthma for those who had the condition previously.
Instant Assistance
If residents, hospitals, and paramedics are notified immediately when a fire is sensed within an area, more people can reach safety and receive help from paramedics at a much faster rate. Hospitals would be aware of incoming patients before they come in and be able to schedule appointments for people affected by the fire in advance to make sure they are well and healthy or not.
